What Nuru actually is
Nuru began in Kawasaki, Japan, and the name comes from the Japanese word for slippery. That is the whole idea. Instead of oil applied by hand, the masseuse covers both bodies in a thick, colourless gel and uses her entire body — not just her hands — to work along yours.
The gel is made from nori seaweed extract. It is odourless, tasteless, does not stain, and rinses off with warm water. It is also considerably thicker than massage oil, which is what allows the sustained, uninterrupted gliding contact that defines the treatment. Ordinary oil breaks contact every few seconds; Nuru gel does not.
What that produces is closer to a continuous sensation than a series of strokes. Most guests describe the first few minutes as unlike anything they expected, precisely because there is no equivalent in a normal massage.
How a session runs
The most common reason people hesitate is not knowing how it works. Here it is in advance.
Before you arrive
The room is heated in advance. This is not optional — a cold room with a wet gel is unpleasant and it is the first sign of a centre cutting corners.
Shower first
Both of you shower before the gel goes on. There is a shower inside the treatment room, so nothing about this involves walking down a corridor.
The gel
Warmed and applied generously to both bodies. It feels heavier than oil, and slightly cool for a few seconds before it takes the room temperature.
The massage
Your masseuse works with her whole body — back, front, legs, the full length of you. This is the part that has no equivalent in a hands-only treatment.
Afterwards
Shower again in the same room. The gel rinses off completely with warm water, leaves no residue and no smell, and does not mark clothing.
How to tell real Nuru from a substitute
This is worth knowing before you book anywhere, including with us. Genuine Nuru requires two things: a heated room and a shower inside that room. Without the heat, the gel is uncomfortable. Without the shower, there is no practical way to start clean and finish clean.
A lot of places on this coast advertise Nuru and deliver a body-to-body massage with ordinary oil, or with a cheap synthetic gel that smells of chemicals and leaves your skin tacky afterwards. It is not the same treatment and it should not cost the same.
If you are booking somewhere else, ask two questions: is the room heated, and is there a shower in the room. The answers tell you everything.

How much is a Nuru massage in Marbella?
From 100€ for 30 minutes, 150€ for an hour and 230€ for 90 minutes. These are final prices with nothing added on arrival. Four-hands Nuru with two masseuses starts at 300€.
Does the gel stain or smell?
No. Genuine Nuru gel is made from nori seaweed extract — colourless, odourless, tasteless, and it rinses off completely with warm water. It does not mark skin, sheets or clothing.
Is the gel safe on skin?
Yes. It is water-based and derived from seaweed, and is widely used precisely because it is gentle. If you have a specific skin condition or allergy, tell us when you book and we will talk it through.
How is Nuru different from a body-to-body massage with oil?
The gel is far thicker than oil, which allows continuous sliding contact rather than repeated strokes that break contact. It also requires a heated room and a shower in the room, which oil does not. The sensation is genuinely different.
Do I shower before and after?
Yes, both. There is a shower inside the treatment room, so you never leave the room. The gel rinses off entirely with warm water.
Can two people book Nuru together?
Yes. Couples sessions run 300€ to 600€ for 60 minutes depending on the level, in a room built for two. Book a few days ahead — availability is limited.
Do you offer Nuru as an outcall?
Nuru specifically works best at the centre, because it needs a heated room and a shower to hand. For hotels and villas we would suggest a Deluxe or Premium session instead, from 250€ plus taxi.
